Monte Brè and San Salvatore. Two hillside drives above the lake, both short enough to fit into an afternoon. Tight bends favour a compact GT or convertible over a wide grand tourer, and parking near the funicular stations fills early on clear days.
Lake Como and Como town. A cross-border run south into Italy, popular with clients who want lakefront lunch away from Lugano. Roads narrow through the villages along the shore, so drivers used to a wider chassis may prefer a smaller car for this leg.
Milan. Just over the border, reached mainly by autostrada, and often booked by business travellers pairing a Lugano stay with meetings in the city. A quieter saloon or executive model suits this route better than an open-top.
Gandria and the eastern lakeshore. A slow, narrow road along the water toward the Italian border, with limited parking in the village itself. Best driven outside midday in high season, when the lakeside road carries more foot traffic.
Morcote and the southern shore. The drive follows the western side of the lake to one of the area's better-known lakefront villages. Convertibles do well here in spring and autumn, when temperatures suit open-top driving without midday heat.
