Interlaken and the Lake Approaches. Interlaken sits between Lake Thun and Lake Brienz and works well as a first stop out of Bern, with car parks in the town centre large enough for a relaxed changeover between driving and a lakeside terrace.

Grindelwald and the Jungfrau Approach. Grindelwald sits below the Eiger and its car parks fill quickly once cable cars for the Jungfrau region open for the day; arriving by private car allows more control over timing than a fixed rail connection.

Lake Thun Shoreline. The shoreline road past Thun and Spiez suits a car far better than a train timetable, with several points where a stop for the view or a coffee costs nothing but time.

Lake Brienz and the Eastern Valley. East of Interlaken, Lake Brienz keeps a quieter shoreline than its neighbour, and the drive around it makes a calmer half-day for guests who prefer fewer scheduled stops.

Emmental Valley. West of Bern, the Emmental hills offer a slower rural drive well away from alpine traffic, a fitting choice when the car itself, not the destination, is the point of the afternoon.
